KEEPING PUBLIC LANDS IN PUBLIC HANDS
Montana’s national forests and other public lands provide invaluable habitat for fish and wildlife and unmatched recreational opportunities. Unfortunately, special interests are always pushing to open up these lands for development. MWF works to keep public lands in public hands, not sold off to the highest bidder for unsustainable logging, mining, and development.
PROMOTING VOLUNTARY EFFORTS ON PRIVATE LANDS
Montana’s farmers and ranchers have a long history of being good stewards, providing wildlife habitat while making a living off the land. MWF supports programs that help landowners voluntarily protect their lands, like Habitat Montana and the federal Conservation Reserve Program. We also work to increase funding to help with weed control and other management needs.
